For this project I created a circular design that incorporates an eagle and the American flag. The first step was to outline the design.

Next we needed to add in a circle around the shape to use as a path to cut out the design.  I added this as a different layer so that it is easier to work with.

I also added a copy of the circle cutout to serve as the backing piece.  I added this to another canvas so that it can be cut out separately.  

I then added in text to show the message “Happy Independence Day”  I selected to engrave the text and then added an outline. 

The settings are for the D1 5W laser.  You may need to adjust the settings for your laser configuration.

Be sure to follow all the safety guidelines for your laser and always wear personal protective equipment when the laser is in operation. 

Next I applied a coat of stain to the backing plate. and used some white spray paint to cover the stars.
