This dock is designed to precisely fit the Apple Watch’s magnetic charging puck and is made from 6 layers of MDF with the top layer being finished with walnut.
For this project I used 4mm plain MDF for the first 5 layers as only the burnt edges will be visible once glued together and 3mm walnut plywood for the top layer to give a more premium look and I think it nicely compliments the glossy white apple watch charger.
While any material will work for this design I would recommend using the same thickness as I did to ensure the charger fits correctly.
This step is optional but it will make assembling the charging dock easier and make sure everything is aligned correctly. I would especially recommend this step if you are making more than one like I was.
I once again used 4mm MDF and cut out the jig design 5 times using wood glue and clamps to hold everything together while the glue dries.
The 5 hexagons on the black layer should be cut from 4mm material and the red top layer from 3mm material.
If you have made the jig earlier, start by inserting the bottom layer into the jig and apply a thin even layer of glue. Repeat this process for the remaining layer of 4mm material and leave to dry.
Next, insert the apple watch charger and glue the final top layer into place.
