Information

I originally made an engraved eagle on 3mm plywood. 80% power @ 350 speed, greyscale with 200 lines. Took 1 hr and 42 minutes. Image was generated from AI - in the xcs program. Wanted to get a better contrast, so I put about 3 layers of white acrylic spray paint on my plywood. To reduce degree of burn and not knowing how many passes to remove paint, I reduced power- 50 & speed - 350 - greyscale and 100 lines, to see the effect on each pass done. Probably could have done only 3, because not much difference.

Instruction

Step1: Prep 12x12 plywood with 3-4 spray coatings

Took my 12x12 plywood, 3mm thick, and spray coated about 3-4 layers.  I allowed approximately 15 minutes between layers.  I allowed the paint to set out in the sun for about 2 hours.

Step2: Engrave layers of paint to expose wood

Preview

I examined each pass to inspect engraving.  After the first pass, it looked ok, but it did not expose any wood to create the darker areas.  Second pass, you start to see the wood coming through. I finally did a 3 pass and looked pretty good and etched/engraved the areas to give me the contrast I wanted.  I did a fourth pass, but it looked almost identical to the third pass.
