#1 DAD Leather Patch

A great gift project for that #1 dad.
The first step I like to take on a leather patch project is to layout a template. Since this patch has a diamond shape, I have added an image of the patch and sized it to match the dimensions of the patch. this helps in aligning and designing the project.
Next, I want to have the text overlapping. I wanted to make the #1 the largest that will fit on the patch and overlay the text DAD in front. This is more complicated than just simply overlapping the two. If you don't outline the text in the foreground the two engravings will mix together.
Next, position the text however you like. Highlight the DAD text and choose the outline function. You can see what area of the #1 will be subtracted. Next, select only the outline of DAD and use shift to also select the #1. Use the combine tool to subtract.
The settings are for the D1 5W laser. You may need to adjust the settings for your laser configuration.
Be sure to follow all the safety guidelines for your laser and always wear personal protective equipment when the laser is in operation.
