Learn how to design a post it note holder and apply patterned paper to the wood for a decoupage project. Many creative possibilities with this tutorial.
Draw a rectangle W = 5.25" H = 6.25" and add a corner radius of 0.3
Add an outline of 0.119 to the rectangle you just created. Set them aside for now.
My post it note measures 3” square so I’m going to make my square 3.2” for a little wiggle room.
Draw a 0.75 circle and place it center bottom overlapping as shown in the picture. Select both elements and “Unite”
Create the opening for the pen.
Draw a rectangle – W = 0.75” x H = 5.75” Add a Corner radius of 0.2
Place the pen and post it note openings into the smaller rectangle, select all and “subtract at overlap”
Create your text, weld and size within the rectangle. Remember to move it out of the rectangle before sending to the laser.
I'm using 3mm basswood for this project and my sheet is approximately 12" square. Measure your wood to confirm the size, it's not always the size advertised and may not accommodate these 2 pieces side by side. I measured across 5.75" and have drawn a line down the center and will apply the paper to one side and the blue paint to the other. I'll paint the bottom with white paint for the lettering.
To apply the paper you will need Mod Podge, gloss or matt, it doesn’t matter. Apply a generous amount to the back of the paper and apply it to the wood. Using a squeegee firmly go over the paper and squeeze out the excess glue, do this top to bottom and side to side. Make sure you eliminate any air bubbles.
Paint the other side of the wood with acrylic paint. I applied White acrylic paint to the bottom so I can cut out the text.
Let it dry completely before cutting. Tip: The wood may start to warp a little with all the moisture so I placed a heavy object over the decoupage part and the unpainted parts of the wood to help even it out while it drys.
Secure the wood to the laser bed and arrange the file as shown in the picture.
Note: The “N” and the “dot” of the exclamation point are not attached to the rest of the text. The “N” probably won't be a problem but the dot may fall through the honeycomb, just keep that in mind.
Now that you have all the pieces of the project cut it’s time to glue them together. Glue and clamp the base and top together. Once dry, glue the letters down. I used a generic wood glue for this.
When the project is dry add a pen and a pack of post it notes and your are done!
Hope you enjoyed this project, if so, please give me a thumbs up.
