Information

This simple project is a great addition to any small toy car set. You can customize the sign to say anything. I also have a project to create the road sections shown in this picture.

Step1: Start with basic shapes

Like many projects, I like to start with simple shapes in the XCS software and arrange them to build the overall shape I am trying to achieve.  Here i have added rectangles for the sign and supports.  I added in triangles to create cut outs to replicate the design of most sign supports.

Step2: create mortis and tenon joints

One of the most sturdy types of joinery is to use mortise and tenon joints.  To do this, I just use rectangles and join them to larger rectangle.  I also add in a corresponding rectangle where the tenon will join.

Step3: Add in sign symbols or text

Now you can add in text or simply symbols. I added two arrow shapes to indicate an upcoming off ramp.

Step4: Settings

The settings are for the D1 5W laser.  You may need to adjust the settings for your laser configuration.

Be sure to follow all the safety guidelines for your laser and always wear personal protective equipment when the laser is in operation.
