Material used
1.5 mm solid beech board, lightweight, resistant and suitable for precision laser cutting and engraving.
Its thin thickness allows you to create delicate rods for fans, maintaining flexibility, detail and an elegant finish in natural wood.
Tools needed
- xTool 40W
- xTool Creative Space
- Air Assist
- Base honeycomb
- Fume extractor or good ventilation
- Fine sandpaper grit 320 or 400
- Dry cloth or soft brush
- Pin, screw or rivet for the center shaft
- Small washer, optional
- Wood wax, oil or varnish
File preparation
- Open the fan file in xTool Creative Space.
- Check that all the revarillas are complete.
- Separate the cut and burn lines.
- Check for duplicate lines.
- Check especially the inner fretwork, the stars, the central shaft and the outer rod.
- Adjust the layout to the size of the board.
- Do a small test before the final cut.
Preparing the wood
- Measure the actual thickness of the board with a gauge.
- Place the wood on the honeycomb base.
- Check that the board is completely flat.
- Clamp the wood if it has curvature.
- Activate Air Assist and smoke extraction.
- Focus the laser correctly on the surface.

These parameters are indicative. They can vary depending on the wood, humidity, lens condition, and actual machine power.
Recommended- First perform the decorative engraving.
- Then cut the inner drafts.
- Finally cut the outer contour of the rods.

This order prevents the pieces from moving before finishing the most delicate details.
Cutting
- process
- Place the board on the machine.
- Check the framing with the frame function.
- Start the engraving.
- Continue with the inside cuts.
- Finish with the outer cut.
- Do not move the wood when finished.
- Check that all the pieces are completely cut.
- If any zone does not separate, repeat the cut without moving the board.
Cleaning and assembly
- Remove the rods carefully.
- Remove small debris from the fretwork with tweezers.
- Arrange the rods in the same position as the layout.
- Sand gently with 320 or 400 grit.
- Wipe off the dust with a soft brush.
- Align the bottom holes.
- Place the central pin, screw or rivet.
- Adjust the pressure without squeezing too much.
- Check that the fan opens and closes correctly.
Final finish
Apply a thin layer of wax, oil or varnish to protect the wood. Prevent the product from accumulating in the drafts. Allow to dry completely before handling the fan.
For a natural finish, wax or oil is recommended. For added protection, use thin-layer satin varnish.

- Store the fan in a dry place.
