Instruction

Step1

Setup & Safety

  1. Secure the Card (Crucial): Business cards are light. The air assist fan can easily blow them away.
    • Tip: Use a small piece of double-sided tape or "Blu-tack" on the back of the card to stick it to the honeycomb or baseplate.
    • Jig: If doing multiple, cut a template out of cardboard first to slot the cards into.
  2. Focusing:
    • Move the laser module over the card.
    • Lower the distance sensor rod on the side of the laser head.
    • Manually lower the head until the rod touches the card, then snap the rod back up.

Step2

Exact Alignment (The S1 Superpower)

The S1 has "Pin-point Positioning" which is perfect for small items like business cards.

  1. Open XCS (xTool Creative Space).
  2. In the top right, select "Twin-Point Positioning".
  3. Manually move the laser head to the top-left corner of the business card and press the button on the machine to mark the point.
  4. Move the head to the bottom-right corner and press the button again.
  5. Result: You will now see a precise rectangle on your screen in XCS representing the exact position of your card. You can drag your design right into this box and it will be perfectly centered.

Step3

Settings (Choose Your Material)

Scenario A: Bare Stainless Steel (Silver)

Note: Diode lasers (blue light) cannot "carve" metal, but they can "anneal" it—heating it up until it turns dark/colorful.

  • Process: You need High Power and Slow Speed.
  • Approximate Settings (20W/40W Diode):
    • Power: 100%
    • Speed: 3 – 10 mm/s (Very slow)
    • Lines per cm (LPC): 120-140
    • Passes: 1
  • Result: A dark, permanent mark on the silver metal.

Scenario B: Coated / Painted Metal (e.g., Black Cards)

Note: This is much faster. You are just vaporizing the paint layer to reveal the metal underneath.

  • Process: You need Medium Power and Fast Speed.
  • Approximate Settings (20W/40W Diode):
    • Power: 30% - 50%
    • Speed: 200 - 300 mm/s
    • Lines per cm (LPC): 100
    • Passes: 1
  • Result: Bright silver/white text against the black background.

Step4

Execution

  1. Framing: Click "Framing" in XCS just to double-check the laser travels around the perimeter of your card correctly.
  2. Turn OFF Air Assist: For annealing bare stainless steel, it is often better to have low or no air assist, as cooling the metal too fast can reduce the darkness of the mark. For coated cards, air assist helps clear the smoke.
  3. Hit Process/Start.
