Information

☕ Kickstart your morning routine with a dose of caffeine and charm!

Bring the cozy, nostalgic vibe of a classic diner right into your kitchen with our "Wake Up and Smell the Coffee" wood sign. Whether you are looking to complete your home coffee bar or searching for the perfect gift for the latte lover in your life, this piece serves up style in every cup.

✨ The Design This sign features a retro-style coffee carafe illustration and vintage typography, precision laser-engraved into Maple/Birch board. The laser process burns the design deep into the wood, creating a beautiful dark contrast against the light grain and a textured, tactile finish that you can feel.

Instruction

1

Step1

Prepare Your Wood

Clean the surface: Wipe the wood down to remove any dust.

Apply Masking Tape (Highly Recommended): Cover the entire engraving area with paper masking tape (painter's tape or transfer tape).

Why? Laser engraving wood creates smoke/soot that settles on the surface, creating ugly brown "burn stains" around your letters. Masking tape catches this soot. You peel it off later for a perfectly clean result.

2. Safety Check

Ensure your ventilation/air purifier is turned on.

Put on your laser safety glasses.

Step2

Software Setup (XCS)

1. Import the Design

Open xTool Creative Space.

Import the design file.

Resize the image to fit your wooden board (lock the aspect ratio to keep it from stretching).

2. Set Power and Speed These settings depend heavily on your specific machine wattage (10W, 20W, 40W) and wood type, but here are conservative starting points for a 10W-20W Diode Laser on Plywood/Hardwood:

Power: 70% - 90%

Speed: 150 - 250 mm/s

Lines Per Cm (LPC): Set to 100-120. (Going higher increases burn time significantly without adding much detail for wood).

Passes: 1

Pro Tip: Use the "Material Test Array" feature in XCS (under the "Array" menu) on a scrap piece of wood first. This generates a grid of different power/speed combos so you can pick exactly how dark you want the engraving.

3

Step3

Machine Setup

1. Focus the Laser

Place your wood on the laser bed (honeycomb panel recommended).

For D1/D1 Pro: Lower the kickstand on the laser module until it touches the wood surface, tighten the screw, and flip the kickstand back up.

For M1/P2: Use the auto-measure feature in the software to set the distance.

2. Framing

Click the "Framing" button in XCS.

Press the button on your machine to start framing.

The laser light (or red crosshair) will trace the rectangular outline of your design.

Adjust your wood's position to ensure the design is centered exactly where you want it.

4

Step4

Engraving & Finishing

1. Start the Job

Click Process (or "Start") in XCS.

Double-check your safety gear and ensure ventilation is running.

Press the physical button on the machine to begin.

Stay close: Never leave a laser running unattended.

5

Step5

Post-Processing

Peel the Tape: Once the job is done, carefully peel off the masking tape. You will see the soot come off with the tape, revealing crisp, clean wood underneath.

Clean Details: If you didn't use tape, or if there is residue in small crevices, use a soft toothbrush with a little isopropyl alcohol or white vinegar to gently scrub the engraved area.

Seal (Optional): To protect the wood and make the dark engraving pop, apply a layer of clear spray lacquer, mineral oil, or polyurethane.
