Information

This free Santa hat ornament can be laser cut and engraved with a name or you can spice it up with some gold laser foil! This four piece ornament is ready to be cut in just a few minutes and can be sized up or down without issue. In this example, I have shown how to use gold foil with the M1 Ultra, however, any diode or CO2 laser can use this material. The video will walk you through each step and the file is ready to burn.

Step1

Paint a piece of 1/8th basswood ply with a white section and a red section (acrylic paint). Seal the dried, painted wood, if desired.

Cut a piece of gold foil to the size of the Santa hat fluff cuff. Place onto a portion of the white painted area as shown in the video.

Mask the painted and foiled board and place into the laser. Ensure the material is level.

Open the file and Auto-Measure the distance.

Using the text feature, type a name, weld, and unite it. Set the name to score at 65, 125, 4. Remove the name already there and position your name into the fluff.

Ensure everything else is set to cut and set the hat fluff, hat pom pom, and red hat insert to 92, 5, 1. Set the ornament backer score to 70, 100, 1 and the cut to 90, 5, 1.

Process the following pieces (marking the processing area for each): hat fluff with name, hat pom pom, and red hat insert. Remove and wipe edges free from soot if you have any.

Place an unmasked piece of basswood ply into the laser and ensure it is level. Auto-mreasure and mark the processing area. Process and wipe edges.

Remove the masking from each piece. Lay the hat fluff on the table and remove the excess foil by pulling straight back, as close to parallel to the table as you can get. Go slowly for intricate names and use a plastic razor to help lift any inside letter pieces.

Glue the pieces onto the scored backing, add a cord or ribbon, and display.

Note: you can spray seal the foil. It will reduce some reflective properties, but it will still be shiny.
