I wanted to educate everyone on how snowflakes truly are made. Can be made as ornament or sign.
This design can be used on:
Sublimation-ready wood blanks (poly-coated)
Unfinished natural wood
Laser-safe plywood or MDF
Light-colored hardwoods for engraving
Size your artwork as needed before cutting or printing.
Print the design using sublimation ink and mirrored orientation.
Preheat your heat press to manufacturer-recommended temp (400f is my settings)
Place the sublimation print face down on the coated wood blank.
Tape in place using heat-resistant tape.
Press with medium–firm pressure for 100 seconds.
Carefully remove the paper.
Allow to cool.
Your design is now permanently infused into the wood surface with full color.
Mask your wood blank if you want clean engraved edges.
Load the design into your laser software.
Set the artwork to engrave only (line or fill depending on your machine).
Adjust power/speed based on your wood type (test swatch recommended).
Run the engraving pass.
Optionally seal the engraved surface with a clear coat.
This finish gives a natural, rustic look with crisp detail.
After engraving, do not remove masking yet if you want super clean paint edges.
Paint inside the engraved areas or use the score lines as your guide.
Let paint dry completely.
Remove masking.
Seal with a clear coat if desired.
Engraved channels help keep paint where it belongs, making this method beginner-friendly and perfect for detailed designs.
Optional size for sign
If you want to make as a Sign you could Blow up the design
Cut the outline from 1/8 inch wood. Backer from 1/4in
Paint the outline black (or preferred color).
Glue it to your finished backer after painting or sublimation.
This adds depth and a clean framed finish.
Once complete, you may:
Add ribbon, twine, or hardware
Seal with matte or gloss topcoat
Mount in a frame or add a stand
Use it as an ornament, sign or depending on size
