Information

If I’m fortunate enough to win anything in the Calendar Contest, every cent of the prize will go straight to the local animal shelter where I used to volunteer.

Christmas is coming, and while my family and I are excited to celebrate, this time of year always brings a sad spike in abandoned pets — animals given as impulse gifts and then returned or simply left to fend for themselves once the novelty wears off. The shelters here are really feeling the financial strain right now, and even a small prize could make a meaningful difference.

Pets are for life, not just for Christmas - just ask our cat! ❤️

There are three canvases in the project:

  • The note holder
  • The drawer
  • The 12 cards with the months for 2026

Once cut, place them into their respective group.

Super straightforward and beginner-friendly.

Apply a bead of wood glue on every contact surface, press the pieces together, wipe away the squeeze-out and let it cure. I built the holder first, then the drawer. Once both were fully cured, the drawer slides perfectly into place.

Step3: Finishing touches

The natural wood contrast is already gorgeous, but I wanted the month cards to pop when they're displayed, so I gave them a light oak stain while leaving the holder and draw natural.

Drop in a standard note block, load the drawer with the months and it's ready for someones desk in 2026!

Step4: Give it to a friend!

It's practical, beautiful and every time someone dlides out the next month, they'll be reminded that some gifts - like pets - deserve a permanent place in our lives.

Thanks to xTool for running this contest and for giving me the chance to turn a few sheets of plywood into something than can actually help animals in need.
