Easter egg decoration

1. Blow out the eggs. This step is best done the day before, otherwise you will need to use a hairdryer or heat gun to dry the egg.
2. Make a hole in the top and bottom ends of your egg using a thin skewer or needle etc, hold egg carefully over a bowl, blow firmly through one of the holes to remove the egg contents. Use the egg contents for cooking.
3. Wash and dry the empty egg shell
4. If you have dark brown eggs you can use them as is, if you have white eggs it is best to paint them with a thin coat of a medium to dark colour. You can use a hair dryer or heat gun to get the paint to dry faster. (it will take a long time for the paint to dry if you don't use a hairdryer or heat gun to speed things up)

Now its time to start lasering your designs. In the example, I used motifs available on XCS, plus a chicken made by AI, and a carrot from Creative Fabrica. Choose your own or use the ones in the file.

Keep in mind you will be lasering ONE design motif at a time, so remove all the others off the XCS workspace. 

I used blue-tack to hold the egg in place because then I could easily change the angle and rotation of the egg as required.

Note:

• You must check your focus each time, otherwise you will not get the results you are hoping for.
• The designs must be small, less than 2cm x 2 cm (0.7 inch x 0.7 inch) on a large egg, and you do have to reposition the egg each time so that you are lasering on as straight an egg surface as possible. Otherwise you will get distortion or changes in the colour of your engrave.
• If the paint used is thick or you have used more than one coat, you may need to do 3 or more passes to get a white engrave.
• Yes egg shell smells when lasered - use the air purifier or vent outside etc.

Each design takes less than 20 seconds to laser. Keep adding them until your egg is decorated to your liking. When you are finished it is a good idea to varnish or seal your egg. This can give it an nice shine and add a little bit of strength and permanency to the paint if used.
