Free Botanical Texture for Metal Engraving

Download the botanical pattern from Atomm and open it directly in xTool Studio. Adjust the size of the pattern to the piece of metal you want to engrave. You can use the complete design or select just a section of it depending on the jewelry piece you want to create.

For this project, I used a 0.8 mm thick sheet of 925 sterling silver and positioned the pattern so I would have several different areas of the engraving available when deciding where to cut my final jewelry pieces.

Place the sterling silver sheet on top of a piece of wood before engraving. I use the wood as a protective surface between the metal and the machine, helping to prevent heat or marks from reaching the base of the xTool.

Position the silver, use the framing function to check that the engraving is exactly where you want it, and make sure the metal cannot move during the process.

Once everything is correctly positioned, start the engraving and let the xTool F1 Ultra transfer the botanical pattern onto the silver.

Once the engraving is finished, you can decide which parts of the pattern you want to turn into jewelry.

For my project, I chose two areas of the engraved silver and used my Reusable Jewelry Shape Stencil to mark matching teardrop shapes. This is another tool I designed for my own jewelry workshop, and the file is also available on Atomm.

I then cut the two teardrop shapes by hand using a jeweler's saw.

One of the advantages of engraving a larger area of silver is that none of the remaining patterned metal needs to be wasted. Small sections can be saved and later turned into pendants, earrings, decorative elements or details for other jewelry pieces.
