Halloween Monster Birdhouse — Assembly Instructions

Before You Start

This birdhouse is designed for 1/4" plywood with a tested 4.7 mm tab-and-slot fit.

In the SVG files:

• Red lines = CUT
• Blue lines = SCORE
• Gray text/reference markings should not be output to the laser.

Score all placement and decorative lines before cutting the pieces out.

1. Cut the Parts

Cut all three sheets containing:

• Monster front panel
• Back panel
• Left side
• Right side
• Bottom
• Two roof panels
• Eyes
• Pupils
• Eyebrows
• Nose
• Individual teeth

Keep the small face pieces together so they do not get lost.

2. Paint the Parts

It is much easier to paint most of the birdhouse before assembly.

For the monster face:

• Paint or stain the main birdhouse body.
• Paint the large scored mouth area black or another very dark color.
• Paint the teeth white, ivory, or bone colored.
• Paint the eyes and pupils separately.
• Paint the eyebrows and nose.
• Paint the roof separately if you want it a contrasting color.

Avoid getting heavy paint buildup inside the tabs or slots.

3. Dry-Fit the Main Body

Before using glue, assemble:

1. Front panel
2. Left side
3. Right side
4. Back panel

The tabs on the side panels should slide into the matching 4.7 mm slots on the front and back.

Do not force the joints. They should be snug but should still assemble by hand.

4. Install the Bottom

Once the four walls are aligned, install the bottom panel.

The tabs and slots around the bottom should align with all four walls.

Make sure:

• The bottom sits level.
• The drainage holes face downward.
• All four walls remain square.

Once everything fits correctly, disassemble and apply a small amount of wood glue to the joints.

Reassemble and clamp or tape the body until the glue sets.

5. Install the Roof

The two roof panels fit onto the angled tabs along the front and rear gables.

Dry-fit both roof pieces first.

Make sure:

• Both roof panels meet evenly at the ridge.
• The overhang is approximately equal on both sides.
• The roof sits flat against the angled gables.

Once satisfied with the fit, glue the roof panels into place.

A small bead of exterior wood glue along the roof joint can help keep rain out.

6. Assemble the Monster Face

The blue score lines on the front panel show exactly where each layered face piece belongs.

Glue the pieces directly over their scored outlines in this order:

1. Eyes
2. Pupils
3. Eyebrows
4. Nose
5. Teeth

Each tooth should overlap slightly into the edge of the black mouth area so it looks like the teeth are growing out of the monster's jaw.

The teeth are glued flat to the solid front panel—they do not need tabs.

Keep the 32 mm bird entrance hole completely unobstructed.

7. Check Ventilation and Drainage

The small holes near the top of the side panels are ventilation holes.

The small holes in the bottom are drainage holes.

Do not cover these with glue, paint, or decorations.

8. Final Finish

For outdoor use, protect the outside with an exterior-rated clear coat or wood finish.

Avoid coating the inside of the nesting chamber with strong-smelling finishes.

Allow all paint, glue, and finishes to cure completely before putting the birdhouse outside.

9. Mount the Birdhouse

Mount the birdhouse securely to a post, tree, fence, or other solid surface.

Do not add a perch below the entrance. Birds do not need one, and a perch can make it easier for predators to reach the nest.

Once mounted, your monster is ready for its first victim... I mean, tenant.
