IFA 2026 Commemorative Round Magnetic Pin with Berlin Skyline

Information
I created this pin starting from the design of the design, made with the support of Artificial Intelligence. The illustration contains some of the main themes and trends protagonists of this year's IFA, together with a selection of symbolic monuments of Berlin, the city that hosts the event.
The pin integrates two interactive elements: a QR Code, which allows direct access to the xTool website, and an NFC tag which, once scanned with the smartphone, leads to the official website of the event. The NFC tag can also be reprogrammed and customized, so that it can be used in the future to link it to any content or website.
The brooch is also designed to have a second life: thanks to the magnet it can be easily applied to a garment during the fair. Once the event is over, it can be turned into a fridge magnet, making it a small souvenir of your day at IFA Berlin.

Instruction
Step1: Preparazione del materiale
I started the project by carefully preparing the materials, especially the plywood, which forms the basis of the brooch.
First I sanded the surface using 400 grit sandpaper, in order to eliminate any imperfections and obtain a surface as smooth and uniform as possible.
Then I applied a layer of white primer. This step is important because the primer creates a uniform base and prevents the wood from absorbing the colors of the print excessively, thus allowing for a more faithful and defined color rendering.
Once the primer dried, I sanded the surface again, always with a fine grain, to make it even smoother and prepare it in the best possible way for the subsequent stages of processing.
Step2: Lavorazione della calamita
The second phase concerns the creation of the magnet, which I engraved and then laser cut, giving it a shape suitable for the size and design of the brooch.
The magnet also has an important function: it is placed on the back of the pin and covers the NFC tag, protecting it and helping to attach the pin to the garment.
During this process, it is essential to pay particular attention to the material of which the magnet is made. Before proceeding with laser cutting or engraving, it is always necessary to check the composition and make sure that it does not contain PVC. This material, in fact, is not suitable for laser processing because, when subjected to heat, it can generate toxic and corrosive fumes and gases, dangerous for both the operator and the equipment.
For this reason, it is important to always check the data sheet or material composition before submitting it to laser processing.
Step3: Stampa e taglio della spilla
Unfortunately I don't have photographs of this phase, but the process is quite simple.
I placed the previously prepared and treated plywood on the M2 worktop. The machine then first printed the design on the surface of the wood and, subsequently, cut the shape of the brooch.
I made two versions of the pin, mainly to check the readability of the QR Code and understand what was the minimum size that would allow a reliable scan with the smartphone. The two dimensions made were 60 mm and 65 mm in diameter.
After carrying out the tests, I can confirm that the QR Code on the 60 mm pin is also recognized and read correctly by the smartphone. This result allowed me to use the smaller version, while still maintaining a good functionality of the QR Code.
Step4: Applicazione del TAG e del magnete
At this stage I completed the back of the pin, first applying the adhesive NFC tag directly on the surface of the plywood. It is important to position it precisely, so that it stays snug and does not interfere with the subsequent attachment of the magnet.
Once the NFC tag was applied, I placed the adhesive magnet directly above it, which has the dual function of protecting the tag and subsequently allowing the pin to be attached to the garment.
This way, all electronics and fasteners remain hidden at the back, keeping the pin design neat and tidy on the front.
