Edge Lit Album Display

Information
My daughter asked me to design an album display for her listening room. This is what I came up with!
Instruction
Step1: Project Basics
All parts were modeled and exported from OnShape (*.svg & *.stl files). I used ¼" (6mm) solid walnut for the light box, 1/8" (3mm) transparent acrylic for the front panel, 1/8" (3mm) walnut plywood for the rear panel and the backer that's glued to the back. The backer makes it easy to inlay and glue the black acrylic inlay in place. I used a Backlight LED Board for lighting, which was mounted on 3d printed spacers (*.stl included) to provide clearance for the cable (other materials would work just fine). I modeled and 3d printed a difuser and included the *.stl file. You may be fine without a difuser, but I think it lights the acrylic more evenly. Lastly, I added mounting brackets for wall mount - optional. Materials such as acrylic and walnut plywood are commonly available. Sources for the other materials/supplies I used are as follows:
¼" Solid Walnut Ocooch Hardwoods
Backlight LED Board Amazon
Floating Shelf Mounts Amazon
Step2: Cut the Light Box and assemble.

Cut the parts for the light box from ¼" walnut or other wood/material. Glue together with wood glue and allow to dry. Be sure to clean any glue before and after it drys.
Step3: Engrave and cut transparent acrylic Front Panel.

Engrave and cut 1/8" (3mm) transparent acrylic for the display. I didn't glue the display to the box - mine stays in place without glue. This also allows me to make a different signs for a change of scenery.
Important Note: Flipping (reflect horizontally) the “Now Playing” engraving to display from the back of the acrylic gives it some depth that may be preferred to engraving on the front of the acrylic.
Step4: Cut Rear Panel and Backer Panel

These parts are cut from 1/8" walnut plywood. The Rear Panel has a cutout for an acrylic inlay. I used a backer board glued to the back to insert and glue in the black acrylic. I also found it was necessary to cut some of the detailed (very small) pieces of walnut to include with the inlay. Just a note - these small pieces often end-up in the tray, never to be found again… I make sure my tray is clean before this cut, so it's easier to find them.
Important note: The Backer needs to be securely glued to the Rear Panel. I applied an even coat of wood glue, clamped, and let dry overnight.
Step5: Rear Panel Acrylic (Inlay)

The inlay is cut from 1/8" (3mm) black acrylic. Other colors/materials would obviously work too. I fit and glued this cutout to the back. I used Starbond (Cyanoacrylate Super Glue), but other adhesives should work well.
Step6: Final Steps

Glue the spacers in place and attach the Backlight LED Panel (hot glue worked well for me). Install the Difuser - mine stayed in place fine without glue. Install the brackets if you decide to wall mount. Enjoy!
