      Easy wood coasters for pet lovers as a gift or for yourself! Toe Beans make our hearts happy so why not have them around to help. Created with love using the S1 10w model, 3mm basswood plywood, dark walnut stain and high performance water based topcoat.

Step1: Let's Begin!

Toe Beans are iconic and I don't know anyone that doesn't love them. When my little sister recently moved into her apartment, she mentioned they need more coasters. As she is a bleeding heart animal lover(definitely hereditary), I started planning a housewarming gift.

I am still learning how to work with different materials so with the help of a local business and talking to a seasoned wood worker, I felt confident.

Here are the steps I took to make an easy coaster set. Have fun!

Place the plywood sheet on your honeycomb and secure with hold downs. Set distance, processing area and parameter settings for Cut. Process.
The results are the 4 blank bases, cut-out shapes(the beans), and 4 recessed top pieces.(See picture 2)
Now that you have the cut out shapes all you need are the bases.
If you just need the cut out toe beans to create the raised sets, I turned off the recess(outline) output for that layer so it just leaves the shapes to process. I have them as red in the second file.

Step2: Toe Beans, Assemble!

This next step is all about assembling.

Lightly sand all pieces, top/bottom/front/back, and wipe away dust.

I chose an affordable 8 fl. oz, oil-based, quick drying (2 hour) Dark Walnut stain and followed instruction.

Titebond Quick & Thick Multi-Surface was used to glue the recessed tops and bean shapes to their bases. Clean up any glue. Depending on the adhesive you use, dry time may vary. You want to assemble before sealing.

Next, a high performance water based (I went with a Satin finish) topcoat was used on the underside, top, and sides as advised by the local woodcraft business. Preference and type will vary on how many coats, how to apply, drying and curing times, etc. (Helpful tip: Use a foam roller or brush or a bristle brush to apply the topcoat).

After applying each layer of topcoat, Make sure to clean up or spread out any pooling, especially in the recessed tops. You can use a smaller brush or Q-tips.

I made sure to test with cold glasses and warm beverages after at least 24 hours and attached felt pads to the undersides. And your finished!
