      A Year of Light: Interchangeable Stained Glass Lantern Side Panels Created by me in photoshop and printed on the M2 with thick vellum as the base for the panels.

This laser-cut wooden lantern is designed to be enjoyed all year long with interchangeable stained-glass style inserts. Each original illustration celebrates a different season or holiday, allowing the lantern to transform in seconds with a simple panel swap. By combining laser cutting, printed translucent artwork on a borrowed M2, and backlighting, one reusable lantern becomes endless seasonal décor that brings warmth, creativity, and light to any home.

This project can still be created with an inkjet printer if you do not have the M2, borrow a friends or print on an inkjet printer!!!

Download both files. One file is the print files and the other is the wood files. If you do not have the M2 download the file and export it as a png, jpeg or svg and print with an inkjet printer for the side panels.

Print the panels you like on heavy duty vellum found on Amazon.

I did four of each for the four sides of the lantern. Cut the wood pieces from 3mm basswood. Center them on your wood. Turn output on and begin cutting the pieces after you do an aimed measure and a closeup view.

Add the L brackets to the side panels. Make sure to line up correctly so you have room to place your 4x6 panels of vellum snug.

Glue circle ring to base lining up with the score mark. Use adhesive to glue light in center of ring. Make sure wire goes through opening and underneath the base. Glue base brackets into bottom tabs.

Do not glue the lantern top to the side panels if you plan to change the inserts.

Glue top raised brackets. Glue tab through top flat t panel.

Glue t panel to top part.

Place first ring face up. Then glue the 2 side rings face down to make a full circle.

I do not like tabs showing so I added a square that can be glued to the top of the lantern.

Glue the short brackets to the inside of the panels to allow the colored panels to have easy inserts to lay on.

Glue the long brackets to the outside to cover the tabs.
