Community Chess Set – Modern Interlocking Chess Board

      This modern laser-cut chess set combines a clean design with easy assembly. The chess pieces are made from interlocking parts that slide together to create stable, almost three-dimensional figures while remaining simple and material-efficient.

The idea for this project came from my frequent visits to a retirement home. Seeing how much residents enjoyed spending time together, I wanted to create something that could bring people together through a shared activity. This led to the creation of these chess sets, which were made as gifts for the residents. Because the design can be produced efficiently, multiple sets could be created, allowing several people to play at the same time. In this way, the project helps encourage conversation, friendly competition, and a stronger sense of community through the timeless game of chess.

The simple, modern design makes the chess set both practical and visually appealing, suitable for players of all ages. ♟️
