      I created “The Old Pub Dog: Ireland Social Club Halftone Hoodie”, a retro Irish apparel design featuring a loyal scruffy dog outside a warmly lit old pub at dusk. I wanted the piece to feel nostalgic, wearable and story-led, combining Irish pub heritage, diaspora-friendly vintage styling, and a strong central subject that works well with halftone texture. The aim was to create something that feels like a memory of Ireland rather than a typical novelty Irish design.

Step1: Creative prep and process

For this project, I wanted to move away from typical novelty Irish graphics and create something more nostalgic, wearable and story-led. The idea started with a loyal pub dog waiting outside a warmly lit old Irish pub, inspired by Irish heritage, village pub culture and my own love of dogs. I kept the composition strong and simple for apparel, with the dog as the central subject, bold vintage lettering, warm pub light, wet cobblestones and a distressed retro print feel.

Once the artwork was developed, I prepared it for fabric by focusing on contrast, readability and texture. I used Halftone Maker in Atomm / xTool Studio to turn the illustration into a breathable halftone-style apparel graphic, then applied the final design to both a T-shirt and hoodie to show how it works as a real-world vintage Irish clothing piece.
