Instruction

1

Step1: Cut out all the parts

Custom Acrylic Flip Photo Frame instruction: step 1 - Cut out all the parts

I used grey translucent 3mm dark grey acrylic ; I had to use tape so that the P3 could focus as it was nearly the same color as the base and translucent.

When cutting out the ABS plastic make sure that you have good ventilation and also wear a mask as any fumes are unhealthy.

Step2: Bending the acrylic frame

I used an acrylic bending machine. You can also use a heat gun. There are score marks providing a guide for the bending line. Make sure that your temperature isn't too hot as this will burn the acrylic. Once you can feel the acrylic bending (takes about 2 mins of heating), use a right angle to bend the left and right sides, then bend the small shelf on the front. This is not a right angle. Check the width against your cut out ABS pieces together with the cogs and washers so that the width is correct.

Bend the top section down at right angles and bend the point down as per the photo. This will stop the photos falling forwards.

3

Step3: Glue the washers to the cogs

Each transparent washer should be glued to a cog. The washer sits between the cog and the frame.

Step4: Drill a hole in each side

The Xtool Selected Engraving Pen is ideal for this job. Drill slowly to avoid cracking the acrylic. A piece of tape will stop the drill slipping. It is preferable to use a drill rather than using the laser to make the holes for the rod as, when bending, the acrylic could bend slightly more or less resulting in holes which are not parallel.

Step5: Glue the small dark washer onto the end of the brass rod

I used UV resin for this job.

Step6: Glue your wheels in place

Glue the wheels to the brass rod using a blank ABS piece to ensure that the wheels are straight and at the correct distance. Again I used UV resin.

Step7: Test that the top is at the correct angle

Once the wheels are glued in place you can put all the blank ABS pieces in place and further bend down the top if necessary.

8

Step8: Cut the brass rod ends off to size and add the handle

Cut the brass rod ends to size and glue the handle in place. For the handle I used 8mm wood dowel painted black.

Step9: Add your Photos

Print your photos to size, each top/ bottom is 64mm by 32 mm. I used self adhesive photo paper. The order is important so that each half photo matches up. You may have to trim your photo so that it is an exact match to the ABS plastic. If the photo goes over the size of the plastic the smooth turning of the photos may be impeaded.
