“DAD” Layered Photo Frame

1. Prepare the Design Files

• You should have:
  • Front “DAD” outline layer
  • Solid backing layer
  • Base stand with slot
• Check alignment and sizing before cutting.
• Recommended material: 6 mm plywood.

2. Laser Cut the Parts

Use the following xTool P2 settings for 6 mm plywood:

• Power: 100%
• Speed: 10 mm/s
• Passes: 1
• Air Assist: ON

Cut:

• 1 × front outline layer
• 1 × solid backing layer
• 1 × base stand

After cutting:

• Remove masking if used
• Lightly sand edges to remove burn marks

3. Paint and Finish

Colour the layers to your liking.

Suggested style:

• Front outline layer → blue
• Back layer → white or natural wood
• Base → dark walnut or black

Tips:

• Spray paint gives the cleanest finish
• Allow paint to fully dry before assembly
• Optional: apply clear varnish for protection

4. Add the Photos

• Print two circular photos sized to fit inside the “D” openings.
• Glue or tape the photos onto the solid backing layer from the front or rear.
• Make sure the images are cantered inside each letter opening.

5. Assemble the Display

• Glue the front outline layer onto the backing layer.
• Align carefully so the photo openings match perfectly.
• Insert the finished piece into the slotted base stand.
• Ensure the frame stands upright evenly.
