Information

Custom engraved slate coasters featuring the exact location where a love story started—complete with names, date, and a tiny heart marking the moment.

Created after a truly heroic amount of information extraction, these turned a vague “please help” into something deeply personal, slightly dramatic, and very permanent (just like good decisions and laser burns).

Project Story:
These coasters were phase one of the “I don’t know what I want” saga.

After multiple rounds of gentle interrogation, we finally landed on something meaningful:
→ The exact location where they got engaged
→ Their names
→ The date everything changed

Once I had just enough information to work with, it became a mission of turning a real place into a clean, readable, laser-friendly map… which is way harder than it sounds but absolutely worth it.

Instruction

Step1: Gather Intel + Build the Map

Preview
  • Extract location details (coordinates or exact address).
  • Generate a map layout and simplify it into clean linework.
  • Import into LightBurn and adjust for engraving contrast and readability.
  • Once everything looks clean, send to xTool.
  • Add a small heart or marker to highlight the exact location—it makes the piece feel intentional and personal
2

Step2: Jig Setup + Engraving Process

  • Create or position a jig to hold coasters consistently.
  • Measure placement carefully to align designs across all pieces or do one coaster at a time if easier.
  • Set correct distance/focus for slate
  • Run engraving and watch for consistency across each coaster
3

Step3: Seal + Finish

  • Clean off any dust or residue.
  • Apply a glossy sealant to enhance contrast and deepen the look of the engraving.
  • Let dry completely before handling or stacking.
