With this project, I tried something completely new: engraving stone tiles to make decorative gifts. Since we’re currently building our own apartment anyway, we had some leftover tiles that we could use for these gifts. In the steps below, I’ll show you how you can easily do this yourself!
https://www.facebook.com/share/18bvpLLUH9/
The first step in creating your personalized stone tile is super easy—and a ton of fun! Gather some tiles (ideally ones you already have lying around at home) with a dark surface; this will make the engraving stand out better, since the inside is often whitish!
Then use a hammer to break these tiles into pieces of the size you want to use for your decorative gift!
In the second step, I looked for engraving settings for the stone tiles based on my previous experience. The settings above proved to be promising right from the first try!
In XTool Studio, I experimented with the design of my engraving; of course, you can apply this to any individual tile or fragment, depending on how you choose to decorate the tile!

Next, gather the items you want to use to decorate the stone tile for your decorative gift. These can be natural materials like stones, wood, moss, flowers, and sticks (see picture). But you can also use any other decorative materials you like, in all colors and shapes. You know the recipient best. Customize the tile to suit their taste!

For the final step—assembly—I can’t give you a foolproof formula. The important thing is that everything holds together well, so you’ll use hot glue for most of it. But be careful: hot glue often doesn’t stick very well to very smooth surfaces, so you might need to use superglue to help it hold.
This simple engraving technique opens up a world of possibilities for creating beautiful gifts! As you can see in the pictures, my wife—who has a real knack for making beautiful gifts—and I have created several different gifts using stone tiles, all made from fragments of a single tile!
Finally, i wil give you 10 simple and important rules for arranging decorative elements for a gift product:
1. Use an odd number of elements
Odd numbers (3, 5, 7) look more natural and interesting than even numbers.
2. Create one main focus
Have one main element (the “star”) that stands out. Everything else supports it.
3. Use different heights
Mix tall, medium, and low elements. This makes the arrangement more dynamic.
4. Keep balance, not symmetry
Do not place everything evenly. Slight imbalance looks more natural and modern.
5. Choose a clear color palette
Use 2–4 colors that match well. Avoid too many different colors.
6. Combine textures
Mix materials like wood, moss, flowers, and stone. This adds depth and interest.
7. Leave some empty space
Do not overcrowd. Space helps important elements stand out.
8. Follow a natural flow
Arrange elements so the eye moves smoothly across the product (like a curve or diagonal).
9. Match sizes carefully
Use one larger element, some medium ones, and a few small details. Avoid everything being the same size.
10. Keep the theme consistent
All elements should fit the same style (e.g. rustic, elegant, natural). Do not mix too many styles.
Have a lot of fun with this project!
