🔑 4-Sided Mother’s Day Keychain – Full Engraving Project
This project uses a 4-sided wooden keychain (plus both ends) to create a continuous Mother’s Day message across all faces.
The project file is set up so everything is already dialed in — all settings, no-output alignment rectangle, and layout are included.
🧱 Project Structure (Important)
- The project uses 6 separate canvases
- 1 canvas per side
- 4 long sides + 2 ends = 6 total engravings
👉 Each canvas contains:
- The layers needed for that specific side
- Output is already turned ON for everything in that canvases (and off for the alignment rectangle)
Why this setup?
It keeps things simple — no toggling layers on/off.
Just switch canvases and run.
🔤 Fonts Used
- “Mom” & “Thank You” → Great Vibes (script, focal side)
- All other text → Playfair Display (clean serif)
👉 This combo gives: Strong contrast, Clean engraving and High readability on small surfaces
🔄 Workflow (Step-by-Step)
1. Select Your Canvas
- Choose the canvas for the side you’re engraving
- If you have a string on your wooden bar, make sure to keep the string out of the laser path as it will burn… no fun!
2. Position the Keychain
- Align the piece flat for that specific face
- Keep orientation centered…. so your message looks fire
3. Adjust Focus ⚠️ (Important)
- Check focus is still correct BEFORE every burn
- Focus matters for sharp results
4. Frame Your Design
- Always run framing before engraving
- Make sure alignment is centered on that face
5. Run the Engraving
- Hit start and process to let it burn
- Repeat for all 6 canvases (6 total processes) - refocus for the small top and bottom side.
🪵 Engraving Notes
- This wood takes a nice dark burn naturally
- No fill needed — results come out bold and clean
- Fonts were chosen specifically to avoid:
- Thin strokes
- Burn blur
- Loss of detail
🔺 Engraving the Ends (Important Trick)
For the two end faces:
👉 I placed the keychain upright in sand (see photo)
This allows:
- Stable positioning
- Clean vertical to horizontal engraving
- Proper focus on the small end surface
🎯 Final Layout
- 4 long sides = continuous message
- 2 ends = accent designs (heart + rainbow pattern from the xTool Studio pattern library)
👉 Not really a full wrap-around, but it is and interactive piece - makes mom want to turn to the next side!
💡 Tips for Best Results
- Keep orientation consistent between sides
- Use the metal positioning "L" that came with your machine as I've shown
- Slight repositioning is normal — just reframe each time ("L" helps with that)
- Don’t skip focus adjustment
- If scaling, maintain proportions so text doesn’t crowd edges
