Information

Not knowing what material these absorbent coasters are made from, I did a test array to see how it would look with out any marking paint.

If you look to the right of the word Power, you'll see a bird (x'd out), and then 2 more above it.  This is how far I got when I realized that the test settings were too fast.  I wanted better results.  So I stopped the run, reworked the settings, and started again using the same coaster.  Hence the x'd out birds.

If interested, the setting for the bottom bird, x'd out, was 100% power at 50 mm/s on my S1 20w diode.

Step2: Second array, better.

The settings for my second run are written in pencil on the coaster.  Couldn't see the scored print.  lol.  A few points if you are interested.

There is a light “glow” around the 3 birds in the bottom right corner (5 mm/s x 80%, 5 mm/s x 100%, and also 29 mm/s x 100%).

NOTE: The 29 mm/s x 100% bird has another bird behind it from the first test array.  It is slightly above.  You can see the glow by looking at the belly of the bird.  It is very light and may not effect the finished product if you choose to laser one of these yourself.

Second point, is that using 80-100% power at very low speeds has a melting effect on the coaster.  Looks like it turns it to glass.  You can see the glare/reflection on the first and second pic.  Very cool effect.  Makes lots of sparks during the process.  :-D
