Wooden automata mechanical box with Easter bunny rabbit and carrot decoration

• Cut Out/engrave all the pieces from 3mm basswood except the vertical two cams and if wanted the sunflower with gold laser foil. Cut 90% power, speed 50 mms, 1 pass. Engrave 40% power, speed 600 mms.
• Cut out the two cams from 10mm MDF. Power 90%, Speed 21mms. Passes - took 8, when checking that it is cut be careful not to move the wood.

Glue the 4 layers of the bunny together making sure that you have whole pieces on the outside.

• Assemble and glue the hare making sure that the whole pieces of rabbit are on the outside using 3mm wooden skewers. The arms are glued shut whilst the hip joint must have movement. Do not glue the arms to the 8mm wooden dowel at this point, it is only there to keep the assembly straight.
• Decorate the box and other items as you please.
• Glue the rabbit decoration to the front panel and the large washers to the inside and outside of the left and right panels.

• Glue the base together and also the hare leg support. Once dry Glue the support to the base.

• Assemble the box except the top and glue together using rubber bands to hold it in place.
• Glue the three circles with two 8mm holes together. Once dry glue a 6cm piece of dowel to the 8mm hole towards the edge of the circle.

• Glue the horizontal cam pieces together to form two separate cams. Glue a washer on top of each. Cam. This will help to hold the carrot stick and bunny head in place.
• Cut a 133mm length of dowel. This will go through the whole box.
• Thread the dowel from the left hand side adding the vertical cams on the inside of the box. You should have enough dowel left on the outside of the left hand side box to glue your washer/extra flower in place. Position the vertical cams under the centre of the horizontal cams and glue the vertical cams in place. If the cam holes are in the same place the rabbit head and carrot will move up and down at the same time. Glue them  in opposite positions to move one item then the other. There should be enough dowel left on the right hand side to glue the horizontal cam which will attach to the moving hare.

Attach the rabbit and carrot to the horizontal cams between the top part of the box. Before gluing make sure that the height of the rabbit/carrot is correct. There may be a slight adjustment depending on the engraving of the middle of the horizontal cams.

Once all the positioning is correct glue the left hand washer and the right hand cam to each end of the 133mm dowel.

Insert a skewer into the small lower hole on the right hand side of the box. Glue a washer in place so that the skewer cannot come out of the box.

Glue the top in place, glue all the top deco in place (the bush and the carrot).

Once dry the hare’s hands can be attached to the handle with washers to keep them in place. At the same time the skewer from step 15 can be threaded through the hare’s feet and into the base support. Add washers to keep the feet in place. The hands and feet are not glued to the dowel/skewer.

Once dry glue the box in place so that it is correctly aligned to the base support. The hare on the handle should be able to move freely.
