Information

This bunny is excited because Easter is coming and he has fresh carrots to eat. He will show off his excitement by dancing, spinning and jumping in a circle. Simply turn the handle to see this bunny come to life.

Instruction

Step1: Laser Engrave and Cut

Dancing and Jumping Easter Bunny instruction: step 1 - Laser Engrave and Cut
Preview
  1. Cover the plywood with masking paper. This is optional, but it helps prevent char on the engravings.
  2. Place the plywood on the slats in the machine.
  3. Open the file and place the design on the wood using the cameras.
  4. Set the black cut lines to 40 Power and 15 Speed for Cut. I only need 1 Pass at this setting.
  5. Set the green lines to 25 Power, 200 Speeds, 1 Pass for Engrave.
  6. Measure the distance. I got 3.7 mm as my distance for 3mm plywood sheet on top of the slats.
  7. Click the green Process button on the top right of the screen.
  8. A preview will be shown. Click the green Start button (top right) to send it to the machine.
  9. Press the button on the P2 machine to start.

  1. You can use the cameras on the P2 to help place the engraving design on the back side of the bunny. This is the quickest method.
  2. OR you can make a jig out of cardboard (I chose this option).
  3. Mirror the design and cut the black bunny outline only from the cardboard. Make sure the engraving output is off.
  4. Remove the cardboard cutout and place the wood bunny facing down so that the back side is facing up.
  5. Turn off the output to the black cut outline and turn on the green engraving lines to engrave the backside.
  6. Process on the laser machine.
  7. Now your bunny will be double sided.

Step3: Remove Masking Paper

Preview
  1. Carefully remove any masking paper from your pieces.
  2. If you did not mask, then you can clean up any char on your pieces instead using a sanding block or wet wipes.

Step4: Assemble Box

  1. Layout your pieces to match my Picture 1 above.
  2. I forgot to add the spacer piece to my photo originally, but added in the picture above (that's why it looks out of place).
  3. Put together the bottom, 2 sides, and front pieces to form the box. Leave the lid off for now.
  4. Feel free to use glue to help make everything stable if the joints are loose.

  1. Cut a .18 inch (48mm) diameter dowel to 3 length sizes. One piece should be about 84 mm, 50 mm, and 48 mm long.
  2. Layout your pieces to match my Picture 1 above. I forgot to add the spacer piece to my photo originally, but added in the picture above (that's why it looks out of place).
  3. Slide the 84mm dowel half way through the box and attach the bottom oval piece (in above picture) onto the dowel. The oval piece should not slide around, and can be glued in place to prevent movement. The oval piece should not be centered in the middle, but be offset to one side instead. This will make the bunny spin in a circle.
  4. Attach the right and left round pieces (in above picture) to the ends of the 84mm dowel on the outside of the box.
  5. Attach the 50 mm handle dowel (on the very right side of picture) to the oval piece on the outside of the box.
  6. Make sure the mechanism can turn freely when you spin the handle. Nothing should be stuck.
  7. Attach the bunny to the very top round piece with a slot (in picture). Attach the 48 mm dowel to the same piece with glue on the other side as well. Allow to dry.
  8. Attach the spacer scalloped piece to the top of the lid with some glue.
  9. Slide the bunny dowel through the lid and spacer and attach the very last round piece to the end of the dowel.
  10. Attach the lid to the top of the box. You are done. The back of the box is meant to be exposed, so that you can see the mechanism.
