Easter Kinder Surprise holder

If you don’t want to use a wooden tray or don’t have these supplies, you can simply skip this step.

For this project, I am using a wooden tray with an inner size of 380 mm x 130 mm, dark artificial grass or hay, and a grass sheet/carpet.

If you are in the EU, all of these materials were purchased from TEDi.

In the file, you will find a base that needs to be cut out. I am using 4 mm birch plywood, and in this project I made the slots 3.7 mm wide, based on my laser beam. Please note that you will probably need to adjust them for your own laser, because even if you are using the same 40W laser module, the behavior of the laser module and the material may be different. Do not resize the whole base, otherwise the slots will no longer fit.

If you are not using a wooden tray like I am, I suggest making a two-layer base. Simply duplicate the outer rectangle of the base, cut it out as well, and glue both layers together so the base will be more stable. Or feel free to adapt it in your own creative way.

After the base is successfully cut out, you will need to cut 16 egg holder rings and glue them together in sets of 4 layers each. I assembled them layer by layer, so first I glued the first rings to the base, waited a bit, and then glued the second layers onto the first layer of rings, and so on.

Once everything was finished and the glue had dried, I cut the grass carpet to the same size as the base and carefully cut out the slot holes with a scalpel. Be careful with your fingers — it is really sharp, as I know from experience. When everything was ready, I glued the grass carpet to the base to keep it from moving.

I tried to slightly disguise the part where the egg holders are placed so that it would look more like a nest for the eggs and also hide the wooden parts of the holder. I used grass/hay for this, wrapped it around the holder, and secured it on the back with hot glue so it would not fall apart. Then I trimmed the parts that were sticking out.

The last step is engraving and cutting out the Easter elements. Once the engraving and cutting are finished, the only thing left is to insert them into the base we prepared earlier. The main thing to watch out for is making sure the layout matches the design exactly. Otherwise, the pieces will not fit properly. See the final image.
