Used these settings to engrave a detailed grayscale family photo onto a stainless steel military dog tag using the xTool F2 Infrared light source.

Kept the power moderately low at 25% combined with a high 2000 μs Dot Duration and 500 DPI to bring out crisp details and smooth shading in the portrait without over-burning or melting the metal. Jarvis Mode was used for the bitmap dithering to handle the skin tones and fabric textures naturally.

Prep the material and Manual Focus

Thoroughly clean the stainless steel surface with isopropyl alcohol before processing to remove any fingerprint oils or smudge marks. Make sure to dial in a precise manual focus since shiny metal tags can occasionally confuse the automatic height sensors.
