Wooden Exit Arrow Sign with Bird Motif

Project is arranged on a single canvas for a 12" X 12" piece of material. Ensure your machine settings & cut/engrave settings are correct and process.

Once everything is cut, clean off any soot from the back and edges using a damp cloth. 

Apply Linseed Oil to the face of the arrow to pop the natural grain of the basswood.

After the oil has dried a bit, apply a Maple wood stain.

Wipe away any excess stain and allow the piece to dry completely before proceeding to assembly.

Take the second cut-out piece (the text and bird silhouette.)

Apply brown watercolor paint to the face of the cut-out.

Note: I used a dry brush, and went in a vertical direction with the paint to give the appearance of additional wood grain. 

Let the watercolor dry, and reapply in areas if needed. 

Apply a thin, even layer of wood glue to the back of the brown watercolor overlay. Carefully align the top layer over the background arrow and press firmly.

Check for any glue squeeze out and remove it with a cotton swab before it dries. 

Mount it and enjoy!!
