There has to be many different projects that could use the use of actual working hinges, here is a set that can be adapted to work with many different projects with very little needed to make them.
Step 1) For these wood hinges to work properly there are 3 pieces needed for each hinge, there are usually 2 sets of hinges needed for a small box lid so 6 pieces of wood will need to be cut. First thing is a right angle triangle is selected from the shapes list it is stretched outwards to make a very sharp shape, This can be set depending on how large or small you need to make the hinges needed for your project. I have sized it to a small hinge, the next item needed is a circle so the end of the hinge is rounded, it is created with the insert feature and sized to meet the tall end of the sharp item. Once this is in place it is then united and it becomes a circle with a sharp point to it. A second small circle is needed but this time it is carefully sized to the same as the dia. of the dowel sized used. This can be a touch larger so the higne arm fits the dowel without issue.
Step 2) Once each arm is created a third arm is needed but it is a little different, it needs to be the same but with some material removed, this is easily done be creating a rectangle and placing it on an angle over the arm and with the combine feature subtracting to create a new shape that is more sleak. The odd shape piece will always go between the 2 outside arms.
Step 3) Now that everything is ready the tricky part is to glue one outside arm to the dowel and having the center (odd shaped arm) slide on the dowel but with no glue, this center arm needs to stay free so it can always move but locked into place with the third arm that is glued to the dowel. Once this is carefully glued together you will need to do this 2 times or once each for each hinge. When both hinges are glued and the center arm is free to move, the 2 arms get glued to the bottom portion of the box or container you are using and the odd shaped arm gets glued on the top of the lid. In this step be sure to glue the hinge equal distances from each end so it looks proper. when everything is dry open the lid…
