Summer time means eating lots of ice cream in my family. My kids love to pretend to sell ice cream in their play truck, so I made these ice cream shaker toys for them to play with. They are quick to make and so much fun to shake! You can find more of my laser files here: https://www.supervectorgirl.com/
A. Open up XCS and select the rounded-oval shape from Basic Shapes. (Picture 1)
B. Rotate it 90 degrees.
C. Add a rectangle shape next and place it over the bottom rounded part of the oval. (Picture 2)
D. Select both shapes and Combine > Subtract. (Picture 3)
A. Make a copy of the the popsicle shape, so that you have two.
B. Select one of the popsicle shapes and click Outline, and add a -5 offset distance. Select both pieces and Combine > Substract. (Picture 1)
C. Use Insert to draw a long vertical rectangle. This will become the popsicle stick.
D. Select the rectangle and type in 8.9 in the Corner Radius box located at the top. (Picture 2, with red arrow pointing at box)
E. Make a copy of the popsicle stick. Align both popsicles to be at the same top height on the canvas and add the stick to both popsicles. Center-align horizontally the stick on each popsicle and make sure the stick is at the same height. The sticks should overlap the popsicles at the bottom. (Picture 3)
F. Before Combining the stick to the popsicle, make a copy of the offset popsicle shape. Select a popsicle shape and stick and Combine > Unite each one. (Picture 4)
G. Add a small rectangle shape (red in my Picture 5) and align it with the little bump that sticks up in the center popsicle. Select the center popsicle and red rectangle and Combine > Substract to “cut” the bump off.
H. You now have all your popsicle pieces. (Picture 6)
A. Make a copy of your rightest popsicle.
B. Click Vector on the left bar, and draw dripping chocolate across the popsicle and go all the way around the top. Connect it with the first green dot to end drawing. (Picture 1)
C. Double click the drawn drips and the green dots will appear again. Double click the green dots inside the popsicle to make the drips rounded. (Picture 2)
D. Adjust the location and rounded-ness of the drips by dragging the green dots around and moving the blue dots as desired.
E. Your chocolate drip is now done. (Picture 3)
F. I made a mistake and should have made a copy of the very first popsicle shape. Luckily, it's easy to re-do if we cut off the popsicle stick on a copy of the rightest popsicle. Add a rectangle to cover the stick only and Combine > Substract to “cut” it off. (Picture 4)
G. Make a copy of the offset popsicle with a stick. You now have all the pieces you need to start laser cutting. (Picture 5)
Turn on your laser and connect it. I used 3mm basswood and 1mm clear acrylic and the provided settings to cut the pieces out.
I used acrylic paint and painted the back piece a light pink. Paint one of the offset popsicle's stick light brown. Paint the top border piece gold and the chocolate drip a dark pink. Feel free to also pick your own color choices as well.
A. Glue the two offset popsicles to the back piece. The one with the painted stick should be on top and showing. (Picture 1)
B. Fill with beads, sequins, and gemstones, etc. (Picture 2)
C. Glue on the clear acrylic piece.
D. Glue the top border piece next (painted gold).
E. Finally, glue on the chocolate drip. (Picture 3)
F. Optional - Add “sprinkles” to the drip by gluing on long beads.
You are all done!
I hope you enjoyed making this ice cream shaker with me!
