Step1

Before You Begin

Before starting your project, carefully review all pieces and identify their intended positions.

Material Thickness: These kits are designed for 3mm basswood. Actual material thickness may vary slightly between manufacturers and batches, which can affect tab-and-slot fit.

Preparation: Carefully separate all pieces and remove any loose wood fibers or cutting residue.

Finishing: For best results, paint, stain, or seal all pieces before assembly. This allows easier access to smaller details and areas that may become difficult to reach once assembled.

Test Fit: Always test-fit the components before applying glue to ensure proper alignment and fit.

Assembly Instructions

1. Organize Your Pieces: Lay out all components and identify the base, structural pieces, decorative elements, and any additional layers.

2. Identify the Slots: Examine the base and individual components to determine where each tab connects. Refer to any included reference images if available.

3. Test-Fit Components: Carefully insert each tab into its corresponding slot without glue. Check that all components fit properly and remain upright.

4. Begin Assembly: Start with the base and any primary structural or background components. Insert each piece into its designated slot.

5. Install Additional Layers: Continue adding the remaining components, working from the back toward the front when applicable.

6. Position Decorative Elements: Install any remaining decorative pieces, ensuring they face the correct direction and align with the overall design.

7. Check Alignment: Inspect the assembled project from multiple angles. Adjust the positioning of individual components to ensure all details remain visible and properly aligned.

8. Prepare for Permanent Assembly: Once satisfied with the arrangement, carefully remove the components that require adhesive.

9. Apply Adhesive: Apply a small amount of wood glue inside the appropriate slots or along the connecting tabs.

10. Complete Assembly: Reinsert each component into its designated position, ensuring all tabs are fully seated and properly aligned.

11. Final Inspection: Check that the assembled project sits correctly, all components are secure, and no pieces have shifted during assembly.

12. Allow to Dry: Wipe away any excess glue and allow the project to dry completely according to the adhesive manufacturer's instructions before handling or displaying.

Helpful Tips

Use Glue Sparingly: A small amount of wood glue is generally sufficient. Excessive glue may squeeze out around the joints and affect the finished appearance.

Never Force Components: If a tab fits too tightly, lightly sand it until it fits properly. Forcing pieces together may cause damage.

Handle Delicate Details Carefully: Thin sections, narrow connections, and intricate decorative elements may be fragile. Always handle these areas with care.

Work on a Flat Surface: Assemble your project on a clean, level surface to help maintain proper alignment.

Check Before Gluing: Complete a full dry assembly whenever possible. Once glued, components may be difficult to reposition without damage.

Important: Slot-and-Tab Fit Notice

These kits are designed using nominal 3mm basswood. Actual material thickness, cutting equipment, and machine settings may affect the fit of individual components.

Slight sanding or adjustments may be necessary to achieve proper assembly. Always test-fit all components before applying adhesive. Never force tabs into slots, as this may damage the material.
