      Be Our Guest was designed to make the cutting board feel like part of the home — not something hidden in a drawer.

The phrase is quiet and welcoming, paired with a flowing ivy motif that begins along the bottom edge and gently rises up the side, symbolizing connection, growth, and hospitality.

The design intentionally leaves generous open space for everyday use while adding just enough detail to invite conversation and warmth into the kitchen. Meant to be used, displayed, and shared, this board celebrates the idea that good food brings people together — and everyone is welcome at the table.

This is a simple project that requires very little prep.

You can either make your own cutting board or purchase one to customize.

The board shown here is made from hard rock maple and cherry. When fabricating a board like this, adding biscuit joinery is recommended to improve strength and help maintain a flat surface.

Once the cutting board is made or purchased, carefully mark the engraving location. For this project, the engraving was placed in the lower-right corner, intentionally leaving the rest of the board clean and uncluttered.

Load the design file into xTool Creative Space, focus the laser, frame the engraving area, and run the engraving.

After engraving is complete, wipe away any residue and apply cutting board oil. Allow it to soak in and dry, then apply a second coat. Once fully dry, polish the surface with a clean cloth to bring out the wood grain and luster.

Display the board proudly — and bring it out for a special occasion.
