This is a highly modular DIY desk organizer.

The Basic Kit: a super-smooth light-axis rail with 5 swappable slider boxes, a back pegboard with 3 quick-release trays, a drawer with adjustable dividers, a gear-driven mechanical phone stand, and side ports ready for up to 5 add-ons.

The Extended Kit adds the left and right wings: on the left, a file rack with a hidden rotary combination-lock box underneath; on the right, a controller & headset stand that holds two controllers and a headset.

The story behind it

Most desk organizers come in one fixed shape — you buy it, set it down, and bend your habits around it.

We wanted the opposite: asystem with no fixed form at all. You can slide storage bins within easy reach, rearrange trays on the pegboard at will, attach side brackets to hold documents, controllers, or headphones, and even install a lockable box for personal items.


Estimated build time: about 1.5 hours for per basic desk organizer; 3 hours for per extended desk organizer.

💡 Pro Tips

  1. Material and Finishing: Black walnut is recommended. Before assembly, wipe away or sand off any char marks and soot left by laser cutting to prevent staining the board surfaces when applying wood wax oil.
  2. Assembly Aids: If the interlocking joints are tight, a rubber mallet may be used to gently tap them into place.
